They watched a dominant performance – but it came from Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez, who completely shut down the Dodgers.

Miami Marlins’ Tom Koehler delivers a pitch during the first inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, in Miami.
He matched his career high with 14 strikeouts, the third time he’s reached that total this season and fifth time in his career.
“I was wondering what the hell was going on”, he said.
Fernandez (14-8) gave up three hits and three walks in seven shutout innings. As it stands now, two of those three teams will make the playoffs. The NL West-leading Dodgers planned all along to limit his pitch count in his return. The Marlins have handed Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw (11-3) two of his three losses this season.
Kershaw (11-3), a three-time Cy Young victor, lasted just 66 pitches and three innings, allowing five hits and two runs.
“Obviously, I didn’t want to come out of the game”, Hill, who had calmed down by the time he met the media, said as he stood at his locker inside Marlins Park. So that’s what makes him great.
“The No. 1 thing Clayton got out of this was feeling pretty well”. But we just didn’t give him anything to work with.
“There’s a lot of fans in Los Angeles that are very upset with me, I’m sure”, Roberts said without even seeing the firestorm on social media. “I threw a lot of pitches”.
Red Sox (79-61) at Blue Jays (77-63), 1:05 p.m. ET – These two teams are not just vying for the AL East title; a slight stumble could knock them out of the crowded AL wild-card picture.
It isn’t the first time this season the Dodgers have pulled a pitcher who had yet to yield a hit during the game. Kershaw had to duck to avoid getting hit.
Pederson was still hot at the plate, hitting his second solo home run of the night in the top of the seventh inning to extend the Dodgers lead to 5-0.
Rockies 4, Padres 1 • Tyler Chatwood had a two-run triple in the seventh inning and pitched 6 2/3 innings as Colorado won at San Diego.
Had Hill remained in the game, there’s no telling if he would have completed only the second ideal game in Dodgers history or not. “He also pitched inside more”. To envision that eighth and ninth innings.
The Dodgers scored all their runs on homers to right field. He said he is focused on his next start at Arizona next weekend. I think he ran into some arm problems and then just could never stay healthy and then find it.
Rich Hill appears to be fully recovered from the blister issues that sidelined him for more than a month and delayed his entry into the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation.
Miami made it 2-0 in the second.
The Marlins went up 4-0 in the fifth.
Xander Bogaerts homered and Dustin Pedroia had three hits and four RBIs for the Red Sox. After a walk to Ozuna loaded the bases, Miami scored when Ichiro Suzuki was hit by a pitch.
Rich Hill was on a roll on Saturday night against the Marlins.
