They watched a dominant performance – but it came from Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez, who completely shut down the Dodgers.

He matched his career high with 14 strikeouts, the third time he’s reached that total this season and fifth time in his career.

Fernandez (14-8) gave up three hits and three walks in seven shutout innings. As it stands now, two of those three teams will make the playoffs. The NL West-leading Dodgers planned all along to limit his pitch count in his return. The Marlins have handed Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw (11-3) two of his three losses this season.
Kershaw (11-3), a three-time Cy Young victor, lasted just 66 pitches and three innings, allowing five hits and two runs.
“Obviously, I didn’t want to come out of the game”, Hill, who had calmed down by the time he met the media, said as he stood at his locker inside Marlins Park. So that’s what makes him great.
“The No. 1 thing Clayton got out of this was feeling pretty well”. But we just didn’t give him anything to work with.
“There’s a lot of fans in Los Angeles that are very upset with me, I’m sure”, Roberts said without even seeing the firestorm on social media. “I threw a lot of pitches”.

Xander Bogaerts homered and Dustin Pedroia had three hits and four RBIs for the Red Sox. After a walk to Ozuna loaded the bases, Miami scored when Ichiro Suzuki was hit by a pitch.
Rich Hill was on a roll on Saturday night against the Marlins.

Left fielder Yasiel Puig, brought back from the minors on September 2, made an outstanding diving catch for the final out of the seventh.
