It was almost two years ago that CM Punk officially signed with UFC, leaving behind his career as a professional wrestler.

Also on the main card, former WWE superstar Phil “CM Punk” Brooks made his MMA debut against Mickey Gall. Watching him fight, I felt like I was down at the gym watching just normal guys that have no ambition to be fighters, just taking the class. I was the guy that was picking stuff up and that’s because Eddie Guerrero always told me “hey pick up the locker room”, “can you pick up the locker room before you go”?

The 24-year-old fighter New Brunswick, New Jersey did not waste time to score a takedown from the get-go as he dragged CM Punk to the canvas before he quickly transitioned into side control to deliver short punches. After failing to secure the submission, Gall pounded away at CM Punk before finally locking in the submission, forcing him to tap. The former WWE champion didn’t last more than one round in the Octagon with Mickey Gall, tapping out after getting brutalized.

From the get-go, Gall took Punk down and hammered him with brutal shots as the former WWE champion was mounted from the start.

“I just like to take challenges”. You can find his podcast, “The Fight Club Chicago”, and subscribe on iTunes. “I respect he wants to test himself and has the courage to do so”. The Gall-Punk fight was delayed earlier this year when Punk required back surgery.

So, the MMA and wrestling world had their eyes on CM Punk for one night. At Friday’s weigh-in, Punk refused to shake Gall’s hand during their photo op, saying later, “I’m not here to shake anybody’s hand”. That’s my feeling, it was my feeling watching him hit the bag and when I was watching him punch things. Punk has been training at Roufusport in Milwaukee and has shown quite a bit of training footage while filming his documentary, The Evolution of Punk.

After the win, Gall called out UFC lightweight Sage Northcutt.

White said if Punk’s ambition was to return to the cage, it wouldn’t be at the highest level.

“For a long time, the demands of my schedule as a professional wrestler forced me to prioritize my job over everything else in my life”. “That’s why I got into this sport”. He gave a great speech about getting knocked down and getting back up which won him the crowd.
