Hillary Clinton expresses ‘regret’ for calling Donald Trump supporters ‘deplorables’

Earlier, she said many of those backing her rival were racist, sexist, xenophobic and Islamophobic.

At the fundraiser, Clinton bemoaned the people she described as “deplorables”, saying “unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up”.

“Hillary, they are not a basket of anything”, Pence said. “They don’t buy everything he says, but he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different”. “They say I have the most loyal people … where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?”

While Trump has leveled similar criticism in the past, doing so on Russian television could draw more criticism from those who have questioned his overtures to Putin, including a number of Republicans. In fact, these remarks are just plain stupid. “Now, some of those folks – they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America”, said Clinton, who was the country’s top diplomat during President Barack Obama’s first term.

Not so much an alliance between potential global partners, the pivot here seems to be a remarkable belief on Trump’s part that Putin “likes me” – and so, in his eyes, Putin can do no wrong.

Yeah, there’s not enough gold in Fort Knox to make me want to pull that lever for that woman.

Pence, in remarks at the Values Voter conference in Washington, shot back: “The truth of the matter is that the men and women who support Donald Trump’s campaign are hard-working Americans, farmers, coal miners, teachers, veterans, members of our law enforcement community, members of every class of this country who know that we can make America great again”. “Last night I was “grossly generalistic, ‘ and that’s never a good idea”, she said in the statement”.

Mr Trump responded to Mrs Clinton’s suggestion that half his supporters were worthy of condemnation by saying the comment insulted “millions of fantastic, hard working people”.

Criticisms come from 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney as well as longtime Trump critics South Carolina Sen.

“But let’s be clear, what’s really “deplorable” is that Donald Trump hired a major advocate for the so-called “alt-right” movement to run his campaign and that David Duke and other white supremacists see him as a champion of their values”.

While she offered remorse for her comments, Clinton also said it was “deplorable” that Trump has built his campaign “largely on prejudice and paranoia” and has “given a national platform to hateful views and voices”.

Responding in a statement, Trump said it was “disgraceful that Hillary Clinton makes the worst mistake of the political season and instead of owning up to this grotesque attack on American voters, she tries to turn it around with a pathetic rehash of the words and insults used in her failing campaign?”

Trump added that Clinton was showing “bigotry and hatred for millions of Americans”, arguing that she was “incapable to serve as President of the United States”.

“If he says great things about me, I’m going to say great things about him”, Trump said at the Wednesday event, even calling the Russian president “a leader, far more than our president has been a leader”.

Clinton joked with reporters this week that she has more flag officers backing her campaign, adding, “but who is counting?”

“If they won’t come in voluntarily, I told them we’ll have this out in a public hearing”.

A Trump supporter, left, plugs his ears while passing protesters waving signs and chanting against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, as Trump supporters filtered into the venue of a Trump rally at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, in Denver, Friday, July 29, 2016.

“He said one nice thing about me”.

UPDATE: Various conservative leaders issued a statement on Clinton’s remarks, saying it shows how she’s unfit for office.

Asked about her promise to not put troops in Iraq, she reiterated her belief that “putting a big contingent of American grounds troops on the ground in Iraq and Syria would not be in the best interest in the fight against ISIS an other terrorist groups”.
