Texas is ranked for the first time under Strong. When the extra point got blocked to turn a potential three-point lead into a tie game, the energy in the stadium and on the sidelines would have completely deflated.

Following a heartbreaking 50-47 double-overtime loss at Texas on Sunday, Notre Dame could suffer another big loss for its home opener Saturday against Nevada. Fast-forward nearly two years and defending an up-tempo offense is still a problem. “Now if we’re 10 or 11 games into the season and we have to outscore everybody, I’ll take the questions”. Those guys continued to battle. We have to coach better.
“We put ourselves in a position”. Those two, along with sophomore running back Chris Warren, are primed to get a healthy dose of carries as Texas tries to set a physical tone. “We’re in game one of a brand new offense that we saw for the first time, and we had 10 guys that went on to the National Football League off this team”. “It’s going to be different”.

In Notre Dame’s final game of 2015, a 44-28 Fiesta Bowl loss to Ohio State, the Irish defense allowed 496 yards. Texas defeated then-No. 10 Oklahoma in October 2015, dousing Strong with a Gatorade bath when the clock struck zero.
Buechele, the first freshman quarterback to start a Longhorns season opener since Bobby Layne in 1944, was impressive, with 280 yards passing and two long touchdown throws. Honestly, it’s something I’ve seen all spring and summer.
Irish coach Brian Kelly called for a subsequent review of the play. Well for starters, Texas had a star studded lineup of recruits in attendance for last night’s big win, and that included guys like Marvin Wilson, Baron Browning, and Walker Little.
That gives me hope that Texas is on the right track, getting back to relevance but one victory doesn’t prove it. A big win over Notre Dame has reenergized a fan base that has been patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for Texas’ football program to get back to the winning standard that it’s used to.

O’Connor is going to need to spend the next few days going through progressions and learning to use pump fakes and his eyes to get some go routes open for Corley and Madaris. If we let that happen then this can be a trap game and it can become very hard for us. He’s athletic. He’s a victor, and we’re still figuring that out on the back end.
Meanwhile, Texas is enjoying a new perch. “And defensively, obviously, we couldn’t come up with a stop”, he said Tuesday.
“If we just do the ordinary things ordinarily well we’re in good shape”.
Here’s the problem. One game shouldn’t vault this team into the top 15, not yet anyway. You have got in the way of yourself from preparing the way you need to to lead your football team.
