MQM leader Rashid Godil has been rushed to a hospital after his auto was shot at by two unidentified men on motorcycles in Karachi, Pakistan.
“Godil’s driver, Abdul Mateen, succumbed to his injuries while the MQM leader is critically injured and being operated”, he said, according to The Express Tribune. Godil suffered three bullet wounds.
His wife who was with him in the auto remained unhurt. He is expected to hold a meeting with MQM officials tomorrow at Nine Zero.
Police said that the area where the shooting took place had several banks, department stores and houses with cctv cameras.
The assassination attempt was condemned immediately, with Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah ordering IG Sindh police to initiate a full investigation and JUI-F’s Jan Muhammad Khan Achakzai condemning the attack during his meeting with MQM leaders.
He will arrive at the MQM’s headquarters at 11 AM tomorrow.
The resignations have not yet been formally accepted by the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, which is trying to get the party to reverse its decision.
