Seven officers charged in police sex scandal
O’Malley said evidence indicated two of the accused Oakland officers also had sexual contact with the teenager, but that conduct occurred in another county outside her jurisdiction.

The wide-ranging scandal surfaced when a teenage woman who described herself as a prostitute said she had sex with about 30 law enforcement officials throughout the region.
Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley announced Friday morning that seven officers are being charged in the sexual misconduct scandal plaguing Bay Area law enforcement agencies.
O’Malley added that her office had no part in sending Guap to Florida, and that she understands the public outcry about the teenager’s secretive removal from California by another police agency whose officers are also under investigation for exploiting Guap.
Last week, Guap was arrested for aggravated battery after she allegedly attacked a security officer at a voluntary rehab facility in Florida, according to an arrest report.
The prosecutor said she needs the teen to provide testimony in the case.
The now 19-year-old woman has said she had sex with more than a dozen officers in exchange for money and tips on when police planned to conduct prostitution raids. Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department didn’t immediately return a request for comment on Friday.
Two law enforcement officers – Giovani LoVerde of the Oakland Police Department and Ricardo Perez, who has resigned from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department – will be charged with felony oral copulation with a minor, O’Malley said.
Brian Bunton of the Oakland Police Department faces a felony count of obstruction of justice and one count of engaging in an act of prostitution.
San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Robert Himelblau said that while they haven’t brought charges against any officer yet, they do have an open investigation.
Former Chief Sean Whent resigned in the wake of the sexual exploitation scandal when it was reported that police brass supposedly knew about the involvement of the seven police officers int he scandal for months.
Five of the officers are past or current members of the Oakland Police Department. A third killed himself past year.
Sergeant Michael Andraychak of the San Francisco police said his department has an open internal affairs investigation, but no criminal investigation.
The Associated Press generally doesn’t identify sex crimes victims. The woman was a minor when several of the alleged acts are said to have taken took place, the charges against the officers suggest. “We were not informed, and we protested once we learned she had been moved”, O’Malley said.
Earlier this week, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf announced that four Oakland officers are being fired, seven will serve unpaid suspensions and another one will be required to attend training classes. In June, three Oakland police chiefs lost their jobs in one week. On Thursday, a Livermore police officer who had been on administrative leave resigned after seeing the results of his department’s investigation.
