Kaepernick sits during national anthem, sparks outrage and support
49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneels during the US national anthem to protest American racial injustice and minority oppression before a pre-season game against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night.

The move continues his protest against what he sees as racial injustice and police brutality.
So, props should be given to Kaepernick for putting his money where his mouth is and taking that extra step to spark change. Kaepernick’s team the San Francisco 49ers played against the San Diego Chargers at the Qualcomm Stadium where the host team held a “salute to the military” event.
To the kneeling Kaepernick’s left stood Nate Boyer, a former Green Beret who went to training camp with the Seahawks past year as a long snapper. But keep the focus on what the issues really are, ‘ ” Kaepernick said. “And I have to help these people”.
“Taking a knee is worth doing, because it’s people’s lives and issues that are far bigger than the game, ” said Reid, a third-year safety from Baton Rouge, La.
“Just tell him to think about the pros and the cons”, Sherman said.
“I don’t think we’d have a player like him, frankly, I think he’d be booed out or the owners would be forced to not accept someone like him”, he said. Rather, the duo kneeled as the national anthem was proudly belted out on the field.
In a thoughtful open letter posted on the Army Times website earlier this week, Boyer expressed a willingness to listen to the quarterback’s thoughts behind his protest.
Kaepernick changed his protest slightly, kneeling instead of sitting through the anthem. “I believe that there are issues in this country-many issues, too many to name”.

In Oakland, Lane sat on the bench behind his standing teammates before Seattle’s game against the Raiders. I support what your message is. “People thought it was disrespectful for him to sit down”. That came off as more respectful to the country, to the anthem, to the military.
