Other leaks have indicated that Apple might also feature backlit keys in its upcoming wireless keyboard, and might introduce specifically designed new function keys to work alongside iOS 9 on the iPad.

It looks as if Apple is getting ready to upgrade its trusty old Magic Mouse and Wireless Keyboard duo, according to recent regulatory filings.

It is unclear whether Apple has tampered with the physical design of either product, but upgraded internals are detailed in the documents. Inside these devices is no longer the Bluetooth 2.1 (BCM2042 inside) they originally came packed with, but Bluetooth 4.2 with Bluetooth LE Low Energy.

The filings do not show whether there will be any changes made to the top of the Magic Mouse 2, it does reveal that the AA battery dock has likely been swapped out for built-in lithium-ion batteries. While battery life wasn’t a particularly major sore point for previous iterations of these devices, longer battery life will be welcome.

A report says that Apple could introduce Force Touch technology in the mouse, allowing it to become a handy accessory when used with desktop Macs to make use of the new gestures in OS X. You can expect more details to be officially unveiled by Apple during its rumoured September 9th Press Event during which the company is expected to launch its new range of iPhone 6S devices.
