A brush fire near a riverbed in Montebello was 80 percent contained at 370 acres, and a 45-year-old man was under arrest on suspicion of arson.

The MAFFS are specially-equipped C-130 military cargo planes used to drop fire retardant on wildfire areas.

Here is the latest update Monday on the most significant fires in Northern California.

Fork Complex: Multiple fires totalling 32,698 acres in Trinity County south of Hayfork, 52 percent contained.

Elsewhere in the same forest, a fire that broke out Friday in the San Gabriel Mountains north of suburban Glendora was 84 percent contained after burning 2½-square miles.

Also on Monday, the NIFC said it was mobilizing 200 active-duty soldiers from Washington to help in the firefighting efforts. That fire has reached 21,000 acres as of Tuesday, forcing the closure of a number of campgrounds and the evacuation of the Black Rock Reservoir region.
