Miocic defeats Overeem in first round of UFC 203 main event
Early in the first round, Miocic was pursuing Overeem when he got caught with a punch to the jaw and fell backwards.

The Ohio native loved the response the Quicken Loans Arena crowd provided him Saturday night at UFC 203 as he scored a victory over Alistair Overeem and defended his heavyweight title.
Floored by an early punch, Miocic recovered and knocked out Alistair Overeem at 4:27 of the first round to conclude UFC 203 on Saturday night in front of almost 20,000 delirious fans.
“I’ll keep winning. I keep becoming ‘And Still, ‘” Miocic said.
“I’m going to stay champ for a long time”, he said. In the post-fight press conference, Miocic addressed Overeem’s accusations, and the situation that occurred after the fight.
Miocic may have done his city proud, but he was unfortunately the only OH fighter to come away with a victory. “I remember I was in the back signing my check and all that stuff and I heard the boos and I asked what they were booing about cause I knew that was talking and they told me that he said that I tapped out”.
Im going to remember this for the rest of my life, Miocic said. In a matter of seconds, Miocic was in a full mount position standing over Overeem and delivered a barrage of punches to Overeem’s skull, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Punk arguably lost the fight in the first five seconds as he marched across the cage and got taken down nearly immediately.
Punk, who was one of WWEs biggest stars when he left it two years ago to try his hand in ultimate fighting, tapped out just 2:14 into the first round after he was pummeled and choked by welterweight Mickey Gall. Pinned up against the fencing, he was unable to get out from under Gall, who smashed a right hand into Punks temple and then kneeled on top of him and swung both arms like a pendulum, connecting with one hard shot after another.
While the Cleveland fans saw the fight ends as they wished, their man’s title reign looked to be under bigger threat when Alistair Overeem knocked the American down with a big left hand and then looked to end the fight with a guillotine. I just remember punching him in the face repeatedly until he was unconscious. “He put me on my ass, and that guillotine – I trained to get out of it”.
“Obviously, Mickey’s a hell of a fighter”. Werdum took a unanimous decision win against Travis Browne in Saturday’s co-main event.

And yet despite his loss, Punk said afterwards he was thrilled to receive the opportunity to compete. I know there’s a lot of doubters but listen, life’s about falling down and getting back up.
