It is expected that other players plan on kneeling during the national anthem during Sunday’s slate of games. Foster said Dolphins players met Friday and agreed to make their own decision on how to handle Sunday’s anthem. While there have been plenty of detractors within the NFL, his protest has mostly seemed like it has the support of people across the league. The Seattle Seahawks said last week they planned a demonstration of “unity” when their game against Miami kicks off Sunday afternoon.

Peters said this week that he stood with Colin Kaepernick “100 percent”, and wanted to draw attention to racial inequality in America. It does need to change for all, equal opportunities for everybody, not just us as black Americans.

It all led to plenty of sentiment that, for one day, Kaepernick’s protest should be put away – or face heavy backlash on a day that significantly honors law enforcement. I salute him for that. “Just on my piece, I don’t think nothing’s being done about it”. “Together we are going to continue to have conversations, educate ourselves and others on social issues and work with local law enforcement officials and leaders to make an impact on the Kansas City community”. “It is our goal to be unified as a team and to be respectful of everyone’s opinions, and the remembrance of 9/11”.

The national anthem dissent that began with Kaepernick sitting, then kneeling, to protest what he cited as oppression of blacks and minorities has taken on a life of its own. The 49ers play the Rams Monday night.

A giant flag is spread over the field at Arrowhead Stadium to commemorate Sept. 11 before the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers
