The clashes between youth and security personnel were also reported from many other places in Valley including some areas in summer capital Srinagar.

A policeman was killed on Sunday in a gunfight between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said. Additional security forces were rushed to the area.

The deadly violence, in the wake of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani’s killing in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir on July 8, has left 77 people, including two cops, dead and several thousands injured. Sheikh was among the dozens of protesters who were challenged by security forces when they marched in a village defying restrictions on the assembly of four or more people. Normal life remains crippled due to curfew and the shutdown call by separatists groups.

Twenty of the injured have been referred to various hospitals in Srinagar, the official said.

The death toll in the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir Valley rose to 80 as a youth succumbed to his injuries on Sunday in Srinagar.

The authorities continued to impose declared and undeclared curfew in the Valley on the 65th consecutive day, today. Shops, business establishments, petrol pumps and educational institutions remained closed in the day and public transport was off the roads.
