Doctor: Clinton has pneumonia, recovering after 9-11 event

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton abruptly left a 9/11 memorial service Sunday after she “felt overheated”, her staff said.

Bardack, an internist who has been Clinton’s personal doctor since 2001, released a two-page letter in July 2015 that said Clinton was in “excellent physical condition and fit to serve as president of the United States”. “On Friday, during follow-up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia”, Bardack said in a statement released by Clinton’s campaign.

Ms Clinton’s departure from the event was not witnessed by the reporters who travel with her campaign and aides provided no information about why she left or her whereabouts for almost two hours.

Hillary Clinton’s doctor says the Democratic presidential candidate has been diagnosed with pneumonia, but is “recovering nicely”.

A Democratic congressman who stood behind Hillary Clinton at a September 11 memorial ceremony says he chatted with the Democratic candidate beforehand and that “she did not seem out of the ordinary at all” although the conditions were “stiflingly hot”.

As the video emerged, Clinton emerged from her daughter’s apartment, waving to reporters and saying she was feeling great.

Clinton had a medical examination when she got back to her home in Chappaqua, New York, according to a campaign aide. “What a awful thing she said about so many great Americans!”

Democratic Representative Joe Crowley of NY, a Clinton supporter who attended the event, told Reuters that it was “incredibly, stiflingly hot” during the ceremony.

Regardless of how much the illness curtails her campaigning, the diagnosis comes at a crucial time in the White House race against Republican rival Donald Trump.

Sen. Chuck Schumer says Hillary Clinton seemed “fine” just before she left the 9/11 memorial ceremony and was captured on video appearing to struggle to stay on her feet. It noted that her current medical conditions include hyperthyroidism and seasonal pollen allergies.

Fox News quoted a source saying Clinton stumbled off the curb, her “knees buckled” and she lost a shoe as she was helped into a van during her “unexpected early departure”.

Clinton leads Trump 46 percent to 41 percent lead among likely voters, according to the poll, which had a 4.5 percentage-point margin of error.

She had apologised on Saturday for suggesting half of the Republican’s supporters were “deplorables”. She later said she regretted applying that description to “half” of Mr Trump’s backers, but stuck by her assertion that he has given a platform to “hateful views and voices”.

“Every time I think about Trump I get allergic”, she joked in front of the crowd. Clinton also hugged and took a picture with a little girl who was allowed past the security line. The episode has already propelled her health from right-wing media to the mainstream: NBC did two Sunday “special reports” on the subject.

Trump has repeatedly raised questions about Clinton’s health and whether she had the “stamina” to serve as president.

And they’ve disclosed a limited amount of information about their medical history.

Trump’s gastroenterologist, Dr. Harold Bornstein, wrote a four-paragraph letter claiming Trump would be “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency”.
