Around 10:40 p.m. Friday, Royce City police received a call regarding a woman attempting to stop vehicles near the intersection of FM 35 and Hunt Count Road 2595.
The woman said her husband had been shot and when officers checked a nearby vehicle they found the man dead from a single gunshot wound. Poynter was charged after leading officers with the Royse City Police Department to the body of Robert Poynter.
Chacey Poynter, 29, told officers that her husband had been shot and police found Bob Poynter dead in the auto from a single gunshot wound, according to a Royse City Police Department press release.
Michael Garza, 37, was arrested early Sunday and faces a murder charge in the slaying of Capt. Robert Poynter, 47, who was found dead of a gunshot wound late Friday night.
Police made another arrest after investigators believed there was a third-party subject involved in the fire captain’s death. She was booked into the Rockwall County Jail.
Robert Poynter began working for University Park in 1997.
He became a lieutenant in 2002 and a captain in 2012.
Poynter had been with the department for 18 years.
‘Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family at this hard time’.
A neighbor told Fox 4 that the Poynters had just returned from a vacation to Mexico.
