Two killed in fresh Kashmir clashes, army moved in

Meanwhile, Kashmir remained shut for 64 consecutive day since July 8 when security forces killed top Hizb commander Burahn Wani along with two associates in Bamdoora Kokernag area of South Kashmir.

Dozens of civilians were injured on Sunday during fresh clashes between security forces and stone-pelting protesters in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said.

Sayar Ahmad Sheikh was hit by a tear smoke shell in the head at Tukroo when security personnel were trying to disperse a group of stone-pelting protestors, a police official said. He was taken to a hospital in Rajpora where he was declared brought dead, a police official told reporters.

Schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the Valley continue to remain closed due to the shutdown that has been extended until September 16 by the separatists.

“The youth had suffered pellet injuries in his chest and abdomen”.

On Saturday, curfew continued at many places in the valley to foil separatist-called protest rallies.

Almost 80 people have been killed in similar clashes and around 10,000 injured since protests erupted in Kashmir in July after the killing of terrorist Burhan Wani.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Khan, said restrictions were imposed in few areas in Srinagar and certain towns of the Valley today. “The doctors who are working in the valley are doing it 24 hours, without going home”, she said. An increased number of private vehicles and auto-rickshaws were reportedly seen on the roads on Saturday morning on the outskirts of Srinagar.

At least 50 protesters and 12 CRPF and police personal are so far injured in the ongoing clashes.
