Today, the government confirmed 11 new cases of locally-transmitted Zika.

Malaysia reported its first Zika case on September 7, and two more have followed since, including the country’s first case involving a pregnant woman. She also had no recent history of travelling to any Zika-affected country. The patient was a 47-year-old woman who had not travelled to any Zika-affected areas.

Mr Mahdzir said the Education Ministry’s directive will remain in place until the country’s Health Ministry issues an update on the Zika situation in Singapore and the Philippines.

Anti-mosquito measures have been taken at her residence and tests have been conducted on the people who came in direct contact with her during the period, all of whom have tested negative for the virus, it said.

There were 14 new cases of Zika in Singapore as of noon yesterday, Singapore’s Health Ministry said.

The statement added that out of the five remaining cases, one is linked to a potential new cluster in Circuit Road area in MacPherson.

One is linked to the Bishan Street 12 cluster and one to the Bedok North Avenue 3 cluster. In the mean time, the other four cases have no known links to any existing cluster.

A total of 304 Zika cases, including two pregnant women, were reported in Singapore between August 27 and Friday, and most were residents or people who worked near Aljunied Crescent, Sim Avenue, Kallang Way and Paya Lebar Way, the CDC said, adding that the student’s home is near Aljunied Crescent.
