Navy pulls freshman QB Malcolm Perry from stands to play in game
Smith is scheduled for surgery this week and is expected to miss the rest of the 2016 season.

“I can’t put it into words”, Jasper said in a telephone interview shortly after receiving confirmation of what the coaching staff had initially feared. “Unfortunately, he got sick last week so we kind of quarantined him”.
The Midshipmen were playing their first game without record-setting quarterback Keenan Reynolds, who rushed for 88 touchdowns as a four-year starter. When Smith got hurt in the first half against the Fordham Rams, Navy was in a bit of a bind. “He’s worked so hard. We just feel bad for a kid who has waited his turn”, he said. The coaches, however, were confident with starting quarterback Tago Smith and backup Will Worth in the lineup.
Worth, also a senior, has six rushes for 22 yards and a score in his stead.
Smith has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, the team announced on Monday. Will is a big, physical kid. He can take the punishment and throws the ball very well.
Hang out in the stands at a college football game and maybe you’ll be asked to play QB!
Perry was listed as the No. 4 quarterback on a recent depth chart and reportedly did not dress for the game because he was under the weather.

Perry was a standout quarterback at Kenwood High in Clarksville, Tennessee. He did not play as a freshman after spending one year at the Naval Academy Prep School. In their game against Fordham, Navy was a little shorthanded at the quarterback position.
