Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois points to cheering fans after defeating MS 45-34 in an NCAA college football game, Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, in Orlando, Fla.

In Week 1, FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher already knows the answer regarding his team.

FSU was 9-of-18 on third down behind true freshman quarterback Deondre Francois, who was making his first college start in his hometown.

Walker was unstoppable in the second half against the Rebels, holding the Rebels to 75 total yards of offense and just six points after halftime. The Rebels were firing on all cylinders in the first half, with senior quarterback Chad Kelly tossing three touchdown passes, while Florida State couldn’t get anything going against the Rebels defense. He ran for 59 more. He started to settle down and went more to the check down receiver, which freed up more single coverage in the second half that the Seminoles took advantage of with more passes downfield. He took it up a notch when he traveled to Orlando Monday night for the Camping World Kickoff. The offensive line and (especially) the defensive line look like they’re going to be fine, even without (respectively) Laremy Tunsil and Robert Nkemdiche.

“They played cover two”.

Florida State continued their momentum by converting a field goal and early touchdown by fullback Freddie Stevenson to cut the Rebel lead to 28-23.

While Kelly would fade down the stretch, Seminoles redshirt freshman quarterback Deondre Francois gained confidence as Florida State battled back.

That piece came out firing late in the second quarter, never looked back, and re-established Florida State as one of the best teams in the sport. His presence was felt immensely in the second half, recording four sacks and a forced fumble.

Proving Florida State put together an all-around team effort, kicker Ricky Aguayo, an 18 year-old true freshman, set a Seminoles school record by hitting all six of his field goal attempts.

Four members of the Florida State football team earned player of the week honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday. Though it’s only one game, a significant test has been passed.

Mad props need to be given to FSU fans that made it to Orlando for Monday’s showdown.

Record crowd looms • Virginia Tech and Tennessee will play Saturday night before what is expected to be the largest crowd ever to watch a college football game in person. The Rebels didn’t want to come to Tallahassee (one of the reasons for the people in Orlando to step in and help make this happen), so the Seminoles brought Tallahassee to them.
