Former Secret Service Agent Timothy McCarthy said “I hope they’re right”, when informed of the release of Hinckley. He’s excited about his future.
Hinckley or his family members will not be allowed to have any contact with the media and he can not communicate with anyone about his offense via mail, phone or any electronic communication. “It was an act caused by mental illness, an illness from which he no longer suffers”, Levine added.
Redacted reports of Hinckley’s assassination attempt are available to the public on the Federal Bureau of Investigation website found here.
President Reagan and three others were injured in the shooting. Hinckley fired six bullets from a.22 caliber gun.
Mr Reagan was shot in the lung, but recovered.
Hinckley will be tightly restricted, especially during the first year after his release. During this time, Reagan is famous for two quotes. Shortly before being wheeled into the operating theatre for surgery, the president, then 70, said to his wife…
The shooting, which disabled James Brady, the White House Press Secretary of the time, left its mark in a number of ways. Brady sustained the most critical injury.
Hinckley said he stalked and shot Regan in an effort to impress actress Jody Foster.
But in a statement obtained by PEOPLE, officials with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute criticized the decision. He was also obsessed with the movie “Taxi Driver”.
“Erotomania is a rare disorder in which an individual has a delusional belief that a person of higher social status falls in love and makes amorous advances towards him/her”, according to the research. Hinckley began stalking Foster – who played a child prostitute in the film – when she entered Yale University, where he enrolled himself into a writing class and would slip poems and messages under her door.
