Investigators said the two officers inside the vehicle were responding to a call of shots fired in the area around 4 a.m. when they were the ones shot at. She says the officers found a bullet hole in the vehicle and immediately called for backup. No officers were injured and they did not return fire, said department spokeswoman Norma Eisenman. The westbound lanes were reopened later Sunday morning, but eastbound remains closed.

The search included SWAT officers and a helicopter crew.

Neighbor, Dante Banta said, investigators came to his home to look in the backyard and warn of a unsafe suspect.
