At the Mother House of the Missionaries of Charity group that she founded in Kolkata, hundreds of people clapped with delight when Francis declared her a saint.

What happened to the critics?

An estimated 120,000 people attended the Mass, according to the Vatican Press Office.

Pope Francis said Sunday morning that people may struggle to refer to the Albanian nun as “Saint Teresa”.

“I am honoured to have been invited, to fulfil the role as an ambassador to Kosovo, to sing at the canonisation of Mother Teresa”, she wrote alongside a snap of her singing inside the Basilica.

“In recognition of Mother Teresa’s selfless and dedicated services, a grateful nation conferred on her India’s highest civilian award “Bharat Ratna” in 1980″, he said. “Not only is she a fascinating person, she led an extraordinary life”, the filmmaker said when asked if he would even consider making it.

“Mother Teresa?'” he told Reuters.

“Let us carry her smile in our hearts and give it to those whom we meet along our journey, especially those who suffer”.

Vatican had earlier approved accounts of two miracles occurred as a result of prayers for Teresa’s intercession.

Francis commended her as the merciful st who defended the lives of the unborn, abandoned and ill, remembering her strong anti-abortion position which frequently set her at odds with progressives all over the world. Her contributions to the world stored up positive emotions in the church.

Mother Teresa was born Agnese Gonxha Bojaxhiu of Albanian parents in 1910 in what was then part of the Ottoman Empire and is now Macedonia.

Aged 19, she joined the Irish order of Loreto and in 1929 was sent to India, where she taught at a school in Darjeeling under the name of Therese. “Singing What Child Is This to celebrate her life and legacy will be a moment I cherish forever”.

Catholic News Agency said Mother Teresa’s canonization was significant not only because it took place during the Jubilee of Mercy but also because it fell during a special September 2-4 Jubilee celebration for workers and volunteers of mercy, of whom Mother Teresa is widely considered one of the greatest. They have accused her, among other things, of patient neglect, poor hygiene and taking money from dictators.
