Doctor: Hillary Clinton has pneumonia, recovering after 9/11 event

Attending the event to commemorate the almost 3,000 lives lost in the September 11, 2001, attacks was so important to both presidential candidates that they both appeared at the New York City ceremony at the same time – a very, very rare move.

The physician said Clinton has had an allergy-related cough, and that during a follow-up examination Friday, the candidate was diagnosed with pneumonia, put on antibiotics, advised to rest and modify her schedule.

Presidential candidate Clinton suffered from a number of coughing fits in interviews and events as she hit the campaign trail in her bid for the presidency.

Bardack said she examined Clinton after the incident at the ceremony and noted she is “re-hydrated and recovering nicely”.

Clinton said she was “feeling great” when leaving her daughter Chelsea’s home in Manhattan, where she was taken after departing the memorial service.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll out yesterday – conducted in the days before she made the remark – shows Clinton leading Trump 46 per cent to 41 per cent among likely voters, with a 4.5 percentage-point margin of error. “Thanks everybody”, Clinton responded.

Clinton campaign officials have not yet announced whether any events will be canceled. The most notable events in Clinton’s medical record included deep vein thrombosis – or a blood clot, usually in the leg – in 1998 and 2009, a broken elbow in 2009 and a concussion in 2012.

But the businessman, his spokespeople and surrogates have promoted the idea in recent weeks that Clinton has serious health problems.

Trump himself was uncharacteristically muted on the subject when asked about Clinton’s health later Sunday.

Still, the episode focused attention on the Democratic candidate’s health with eight weeks remaining in a contentious election in which Republican Donald Trump has tried to sow doubt about her health and fitness to serve. “I think on the one hand it’s part of the wacky strategy”. Despite Trump’s numerous missteps, the race remains close and many Americans view Clinton as dishonest and untrustworthy. Clinton’s van was not in place when she arrived at the curb and her detail leader, normally in charge of sticking by her side at all times, had to leave her momentarily to open the door of her van. She is scheduled to fly to California for fundraising and it is unclear if her schedule will change.

Clinton wore a high-collared shirt and a dark pant suit and donned sunglasses for the morning event.

Arthur Caplan of New York University Langone Medical Center says many people might stumble around, for lots of reasons, on a hot and humid summer day. “Mrs. Clinton also tested negative for all clotting disorders”, Bardack writes. The fall resulted in a concussion and a subsequent blood clot in the brain, which tests later showed were cleared.
