Michael Fassbender says he won’t be speaking about romance with Alicia Vikander
Swedish actress Alicia Vikander and German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender have opened up about their relationship. Directed by Derek Cianfrance. Helmed by “The Place Beyond the Pines” and “Blue Valentine” director Derek Cianfrance, this represented a change in pace for the filmmaker, taking things into a more polished, proper direction.

The couple made their red-carpet debut at the Golden Globes in January and although they are happy to be photographed together, the Assassin’s Creed star refuses to share more intimate details about their life. Fassbender and Vikander are both known for complete commitment to their roles, but neither is a method-acting nut. (Get it?) The Great War – World War I to us – is over, and Tom Sherbourne (Fassbender) has returned shell-shocked and grateful to be alive. True Detective season one cinematographer Adam Arkapaw gives the film a warm, lush glow in the early going, and a dank chill as it becomes appropriate.
The two met on the set of The Light Between Oceans, where they play a husband and wife.
A few years go by, and the child grows to be the smart, lovely and animated toddler Lucy-Grace, and she seems supremely happy-as do her presumptive parents. “But I love the challenge of having the audience understand her and her actions”.
These two meet just after Tom returns to Australia from four bitter years fighting in Europe to apply for the job at the lighthouse. “Then you’re just watching a brand, as opposed to an actor”. It was easy from the get-go.
And Vikander says that it was the fact that this story was about “ordinary people” that really drew her to the project.
Michael Fassbender was honored to play an old-fashioned hero. Rarely have I been so uninvested in an onscreen love story. I make movies about relationships.
“I’m very sad it was not an island”, Vikander says, and laughs. Bachelorette #1 Isabel (Oscar®-winner Alicia Vikander) is the town looker, making her, in accordance with Hollywood’s rule of keeping up surface appearances, the girl in the picture. She was asked to cover her eyes until she was to exit a woodshed for her first take. “So I am looking forward to the experience”.
“I was in tears the first time I read it and it’s because it feels so human and so creatable and it feels like it’s about real people and about real drama”, she said.
“Even through the absolute hardship they’ve had trying to have children, when they discover the child, Tom knows in his heart of hearts that the best thing to do is notify the authorities”, Fassbender, 39, told the Herald. It was probably the most extraordinary sunrise I had ever seen. But for all the tragedy descending upon the characters of this film, it’s hard to muster adequate tears – not because the acting is lackluster (it’s incredible, actually), but because the onslaught of melancholia is so relentless that it’s near impossible to refill the tear reserves. And the removal from cellphones and other day-to-day pressures turned out to be welcome in focusing on the film’s tender and tragic story. “That struck a chord with me personally”. But the film, poised awkwardly between costume-drama prestige and all-out schmaltz, is so busy sweeping us up in a swirl of music, scenery and handsome, suffering faces that it forgets to do the actual work of earning our emotions.
