Armed Protesters Await Stanford Rapist Brock Turner’s Return Home
“If we truly want to create a legal system that brings justice to all - a system that recognizes that physically assaulting an unconscious human being is not some form of sexual shoplifting, a petty misdemeanor where a 90-day sentence is adequate - then we must not quietly excuse Judge Persky”, Hoffman wrote. He was silent as he began the journey back to OH, which he must make within five days of release in order to register here as a sex offender and begin his three years of parole.

This week, the judge found herself on the opposite side of the bench as she received her own harsh scolding from Florida’s chief justice. Within five days of his return, he must go to the sheriff’s department to be photographed and registered as a sex offender, Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer told ABC News, adding that postcards will be mailed to alert nearby homeowners that a sex offender lives in the area.
The sentence, handed down by Judge Michael Aaron Persky in June, caused public outrage nationwide and last week led California lawmakers to unanimously pass a bill imposing a mandatory prison sentence for those convicted of rape. He has also voluntarily withdrawn from hearing criminal cases and will be reassigned to civil matters at the San Jose courthouse starting this Tuesday.
A Bureau of Justice Statistics report released earlier this year said that nearly one in four female college students face sexual assault.
Convicted sex offender Brock Turner is now a free man after being released from Santa Clara County Jail Friday morning.
Brock Turner emerged pre-dawn Friday from a California jail to a throng of journalists and a spectator who shouted, “Loser!” If he waits longer than 72 hours, he’s required to meet with his probation officer here, since he’ll be on probation for the next three years. Jerry Brown would allow earlier parole for thousands of California inmates to control overcrowding in state prisons and rein in costs. His next step is moving back to his family’s home in OH and registering as a sex offender for the rest of his life. “I have a 16-year-old daughter”, San Jose resident Bonnie Montgomery said at the protest.
He must complete a sex-offender counseling class for one to three years. He is also banned from parks, schools and other places where children can gather, and must refrain from using drugs and alcohol.
Turner’s early release for good behavior was the latest turn in a case that sparked a widespread outcry by many who believed he was given preferential treatment and too light of a sentence for the January 2015 assault. Turner plans to appeal. He must seek permission from law enforcement to travel out of state, lawyers say.
The woman said she now sleeps with pictures of two bicycles taped above her bed to remind herself of the two cyclists that were heroes in this story.
