Hillary Clinton Cancels Campaign Trip After Pneumonia Diagnosis

Clinton’s campaign said the Democratic presidential nominee left the 9/11 anniversary ceremony in NY early after feeling “overheated”.

Clinton left the Ground Zero ceremony after an hour and 30 minutes. She retreated to her daughter’s apartment.

About 90 minutes elapsed before the campaign issued its statement. “And I think because of this episode today is probably the only reason we’re getting some of that information”.

Clinton’s pneumonia diagnosis follows a wave of conservative conspiracy theories that circulated in recent weeks suggesting that Clinton’s coughing was a sign of deeper problems.

“It’s a totally treatable thing, no question about it”, Gupta said.

But Clinton does need to take it seriously, some experts said.

Earlier, Dr Lisa R Bardack said in a statement that Secretary Clinton was being urged to modify her campaign schedule after becoming overheated and dehydrated during the September 11 Commemoration Ceremony.

Several hours later, her campaign revealed she was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday and advised to rest.

“While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated”.

But a witness told Fox News that Clinton stumbled off the curb, her “knees buckled” and she lost a shoe as she was helped into a van during her “unexpected early departure”.

Clinton recently sustained a coughing attack during a campaign event in Cleveland, fuelling suspicion about her health and leading to the creation of a hashtag, #HackingHillary.

However brief her illness was, it comes in the wake of some tough days for Mrs Clinton, as national polls showed her lead over Mr Trump evaporating. After she returned home to Chappaqua, Clinton canceled a two-day campaign trip to California scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

After some USA media reported she had fallen ill, reporters travelling with the candidate did not get an immediate response from the campaign to questions about her whereabouts and her health.

After leaving her daughter’s, Clinton was driven to her home in Chappaqua, New York, and made no public appearances. On Friday, Clinton told donors that “half” of rival Donald Trump’s supporters are in a “bucket of deplorables” – a comment that drew sharp criticism from Republicans. Trump and Clinton were about 20 feet apart from one another and didn’t interact while names of the victims were read by their relatives. She left a short time later, saying she was “feeling great”.

The morning started out cool and overcast but by the time the ceremony started, the air was muggy and warm. She greeted attendees and took her spot in the audience next to New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.

Democratic Representative Joe Crowley of NY, a Clinton supporter who attended the event, said it was “incredibly, stiflingly hot” during the ceremony. “I was incredibly overheated”.

Bardack called her a “healthy 67-year-old female whose current medical conditions include hypothyroidism and seasonal pollen allergies”, and said she was “in excellent physical condition and fit to serve as president of the United States”.

Neither Trump nor Clinton spoke at the event, in keeping with the solemn nature of the annual remembrance of the deadliest terror attack on American soil.

While Clinton has released more information than Trump, Caplan said neither candidate has offered voters a sufficient record.

Trump and his aides had chose to institute a political cease-fire of sorts for September 11, urging surrogates today to only use social media to honor men and women in uniform and not to make media appearances. Reasonable people can – and will – have real questions about her health.

“The hide and seek game Hillary is playing with her health must end”, Roger Stone, a long-time Trump ally, said.

At the time, she was up to date on regular colonoscopy and gynecologic exams, mammograms and breast ultrasounds.
