A brief episode of what appeared to be heat exhaustion suffered by Hillary Clinton during a 9/11 memorial event in New York City may ignite the debate about her health that Trump Republicans have tried to kindle over the past few days.

Clinton leads Trump by 46 percent to 41 percent among likely voters, the poll found.

“Let me just say, from the bottom of my heart, Hillary, they are not a basket of anything”, Pence said. At the fundraiser, Clinton said that half of Donald Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables” and that they are racist and homophobic.

Supporters applauded Clinton’s comment, but it quickly earned her a hailstorm of criticism from the right.

Trump responded on Twitter on Saturday morning, saying that Clinton was “SO INSULTING to my supporters, millions of incredible, hard working people”. She also noted her comments about empathising with other Trump supporters.

Trump rebuked Clinton on Twitter, his campaign manager Kellyanne Conway called for Clinton to apologise, and his running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, chastised her in a speech Saturday.

“Secretary Clinton attended the September 11th Commemoration Ceremony for just an hour and thirty minutes this morning to pay her respects and greet some of the families of the fallen”, spokesman Nick Merrill said.

An FBI investigation found that Clinton sent unsecured emails with classified material through the server, but ultimately recommended that she not be prosecuted.

The 68-year-old Democratic presidential nominee had sparked an uproar on Friday when she described Trump’s supporters at a fundraiser. “And he has lifted them up”. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people – now how 11 million.

Referring to Olsen, Clinton said that “the jihadists see this as a great gift”, who are saying, “Please Allah, make Trump President of America”.

The other basket of Trump’s supporters constituted individuals desperate for change who felt let down by the government and the economy, Clinton added.

“Obviously not everyone supporting Trump is part of the alt right, but alt right leaders are with Trump”, he said on Twitter.

Comments about voters – especially at private fundraisers – have tripped up presidential hopefuls in the past. That recalled a gaffe made by Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee at the time.

During the 2008 Democratic primary, then-Sen. I’ve not heard that level of disdain for Americans that I can even repeat since Barack Obama described people that opposed him as people who cling to their guns and religion.
