US, UK publishers address 2017 release date leak
Notoriously known for his sloth-like style of writing, Martin has repeatedly apologized to fans for the delay-eventually leading the TV adaptation “Game of Thrones” to outpace him. Since then, Martin has made his fans wait impatiently for “The Winds of Winter”.

It was previously reported that the release date of the novel “The Winds of Winter” has been listed in Amazon France’s website, which states that the book will be out on March 9, 2017. Amazon France put up the placeholder for the upcoming book and needed to have a date and ended up putting the said date. It’s possible that this was just an erroneous listing, or even an intentionally misleading one posted by someone who wanted to stir up some controversy in the writer’s fan base. Sadly, this turned out to be an error on Amazon France’s part, and the listing has since been edited to remove the publication date.
Its U.K. counterpart, HarperCollins also said, “Nothing has been finalized regarding the publication or the date”.
Martin’s publisher, upon hearing the news, immediately issued a statement. According to Burnfyre, the publisher could be Penguin Random House since the prefix 978-0-553 was associated with the publisher.
“A Dance of Dragons” was the last book in “A Song of Ice and Fire” series that was released in 2010, six years ago.
Noted ASoIaF theorist BryndenBFish also joined the thread and explained that ISBNs were registered in blocks, so this might only be an attempt by the publishers to keep a book series ISBN’s closer together. Since Martin has refused to provide any official information about the book release, it is safe to assume that the date on Amazon page is to be taken with a grain of salt. That’s almost half a year of waiting, but with all the rumors we’ve been hearing about the contents of “Winds of Winter”, it could definitely turn out to be worth it.

The book was supposed to be out before the premiere episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 6. That’s pretty much the only way to avoid spoiling some details about the book right now, and it must be a hard time for those who prefer to read the books first.
