Clinton Cancels Campaign Trip Over Pneumonia

Clinton, 68, unexpectedly left a 9/11 anniversary ceremony in NY after she became “overheated and dehydrated”, her doctor said.

The cancellation was confirmed by her campaign on Sunday night following Clinton’s abrupt departure from a ceremony marking the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks in downtown Manhattan because she felt “overheated”, The Hill daily reported.

It was not yet clear whether Clinton would stick to a hectic schedule that has her traveling to California on Monday for several campaign and fundraising events.

It was a humid day in NY, with temperatures around 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius).

Ms Clinton’s departure from the event was not witnessed by the reporters who travel with her campaign and aides provided no information about why she left or her whereabouts for almost two hours.

Bardack says Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies, and in a follow-up examination Friday of her cough, Clinton was diagnosed with pneumonia.

Added Dr. Stephen Hargarten, head of emergency medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin: “I’m not surprised to hear this happen to someone engaged in the kind of frenetic schedule she has”. Clinton was taking antibiotics and had become overheated and dehydrated while at the September 11 ceremony.

Doctors said she is now “recovering nicely”.

As pointed out by NPR, ever since Trump’s own dizzying drop – in his case in the polls – the Trump campaign has been desperately looking for a way to slow down the Clinton campaign juggernaut, which has been overheated in a way the Republicans didn’t enjoy almost as much.

A statement from campaign spokesman Nick Merrill subsequently said: “Secretary Clinton attended the September 11th Commemoration Ceremony for just an hour and 30 minutes this morning to pay her respects and greet some of the families of the fallen”. The Democratic candidate emerged about 90 minutes later, the Times said, waving to reporters and saying “I’m feeling great”.

Donald Trump has raised questions about Clinton’s health on the campaign trail, arguing she does not have the “stamina” to be president.

She also struggled with a cough during a question-and-answer session with reporters aboard her campaign plane last week.

Regardless of how much the illness curtails the 68-year-old’s campaigning, the diagnosis comes at a crucial time in the White House race against Republican rival Donald Trump, who refrained from commenting on Clinton’s health on Sunday. They said they found a blood clot on the brain and Mrs Clinton temporarily suffered from double vision.

The root of the claims lies in 2012, when Clinton was nearing the end of her stint as secretary of state and a stomach virus and dehydration prompted her to faint, causing what her doctor said was a concussion.

The Democratic presidential nominee fainted on her way into her van and was caught by her security after she became “overheated” during the ceremony.

Clinton says, “It’s a attractive day in NY”. “I don’t think you can get away with hiding your health the way a previous generation did”, he said.

The former first lady has dismissed “conspiracy theories” about her health and pointed to a letter from her doctor declaring her fit to serve as president. Speaking generally and not about Clinton’s case, Schaffner said patients with a mild pneumonia can recover with antibiotics, a few days of rest and good hydration.

Clinton had been seeking to bounce back from a blunder Friday, when she told donors that half of Trump’s supporters belonged in a “basket of deplorables” – so Sunday’s episode was certainly ill-timed.

The episode has renewed focus on her health less than two months before an election.

In another unconventional twist in a campaign that’s been full of them, Trump is scheduled to appear in a pre-taped interview on Thursday with Mehmet C. Oz, also known as Dr. Oz, to discuss his “personal health regimen”.
