Luke Rockhold – Jacare Souza rematch to headline UFC return to Australia

A rematch between former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight titleholder Luke Rockhold and Ronaldo Souza will headline a UFC Fight Night event on November 26 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

Rockhold will look to bounce back after dropping the title to Michael Bisping in June while “Jacare” has amassed an impressive 6-1 record since coming to the UFC including a recent victor over former light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort. Since arriving in the UFC a little more than three years ago, Rockhold has emerged as one of the world’s premier middleweights, with victories over Costas Philippou, Tim Boetsch, Lyoto Machida and Chris Weidman. Rockhold had beaten Bisping once before, but Bisping stepped in on short notice and pulled off the upset.

Jacare (23-4, 1 NC) could’ve fought Rockhold at 199 in place of Weidman, but a knee problem prevented him from taking the fight.

Rockhold and “Jacare” first met in 2011 while both of them were competing in the Strikeforce middleweight division.

Rockhold’s UFC career didn’t get off to a good start however, as he was massacred by Vitor Belfort inside a round in May of 2013. His only defeat came last December when he dropped a split decision to Cuba’s Yoel Romero at UFC 194.

Rockhold vs Souza will be the headline attraction at the Melbourne event, which is the 101st Fight Night card.
