Nevertheless, the US National Weather Service is advising that minor coastal flooding, battering waves and beach erosion could affect New York, New Jersey and CT until Wednesday night, before the storm pulls away from the coast and dissipates. The eastern track means a less severe impact, but you’re still going to see beach erosion, storm surges and risky rip currents. On Cape Cod and its offshore islands, high surf and wind put a crimp in the holiday plans of many people looking to celebrate summer’s end, but beaches farther south reopened.
Tropical storm watches and warnings were in effect from Virginia to MA, with special concern focused on New Jersey and DE, where Rehoboth Beach could experience gusts up to 50 miles per hour and life-threatening storm surges during high tide late Sunday and into Monday.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said they will remain off-limits to swimmers and surfers on Monday, too.

Storm-surge inundation levels of no more than one to three feet (30 cm to 1 m) were expected in coastal areas.
“Right now, it’s looking like we’re not having much of any beach fun”, she said.
Hermine (her-MEEN) caused two deaths, damaged properties, closed beaches as far north as NY, and left hundreds of thousands without electricity from Florida to Virginia. “And it’s only the beginning”.
Tyrrell County Sheriff Darryl Liverman told the Virginian-Pilot that high winds tipped over an 18-wheeler, killing its driver and shutting down the USA 64 bridge. The third reported death was that of a man struck by a auto on a SC highway on Friday as he tried to move a fallen tree, a Colleton County fire department spokesman said.

The first hurricane to hit Florida in more than a decade wiped away beachside buildings and toppled trees on homes Friday before plowing inland on a path that could send it rolling up the densely populated East Coast.
