CM Punk vows to continue MMA career, but uncertain about UFC future

“He probably shouldn’t have his next fight in the UFC”, White said of Punk to Fight Network.

The 37-year-old, who left the WWE in 2014, was immediately taken down at the beginning of the fight.

Former WWE wrestler CM Punk’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) debut did not go according to plan as he suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Mickey Gall at UFC 203. From there, Gall did encounter some of CM Punk’s defence, but he still patiently slid past Punk’s guard into full mount, and from there waited for Punk to turn his back and give up the rear naked choke.

CM Punk got quite the beating in UFC 203, and Conor McGregor couldn’t help joking about it! I don’t know what happens from here on out.

During the post-fight press conference, Punk – cut, bruised, and with his right ear heavily bandaged – reiterated his desire for another go, noting that even despite the loss, the night was the second-favourite of his life. I was hyped because, as Joe Rogan kept reminding us, we really had no idea what was going to happen. Punk had no previous MMA experience, prior to fighting in the UFC.

“I said I would keep this belt for a long time and I did it. I wanted to show that off, but he came in hot so I just changed levels and put him on his back”. I’m not going to shelve it and leave it in the middle of the street. I’ve got to get back on the ride. He got in there and fought so fair play to him. I’m just really, really hard on myself. “It was lopsided and it’s upsetting”. I think that’s a possibility?

If he will have it his way, CM Punk asserted that he is more than willing to get back inside the Octagon to erase the throbbing memory of his UFC debut. I do love seeing the crowd and stuff. “I wasn’t surprised he got through those early chokes because I was only half committing, nearly playing a game with it in a way”.

While most would claim that’s what they expected, most are a bit disappointed they didn’t get to see much more from Punk; specifically the standup department.

Believe it or not, many wrestlers in the WWE didn’t take kindly to being called “pussies” the first several times and responded on Twitter, SportsCenter, and at a promotional event to the insults being hurled their way by the gritty Irish fighter.
