Nishikori savours revenge against Murray
Second seed and 2012 champion Andy Murray crushed Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to reach a sixth US Open quarter-final on Monday, clocking up a personal fast serve record in the process. Tonight was the fastest serve I’ve ever hit.

“I’m so glad to be part of the last eight in this tournament, and that I will have the chance to play another big challenge after tomorrow”. I knew what I had to do.
He went from a lead of two sets to one, plus a break point at 1-all, to ceding the fourth set and trailing 2-0 in the fifth.
“I don’t really think about sending messages, purely because I know how much can change in a couple of days”.
The progress of Murray, Edmund and Konta to that stage marked the first time three British singles players have advanced that far at a Grand Slam since 1964.
Serena Williams surpassed Roger Federer for most Grand Slam match victories in tennis’ Open era with No. 308, a 6-2, 6-3 win over Yaroslava Shvedova on Monday to reach the U.S. Open quarterfinals.
‘I have played well against him in the past but he likes these conditions.
Kei Nishikori is calm and quiet on court and a paragon of sportsmanship, but the Japanese enjoyed taking revenge against Andy Murray at the U.S. Open on Wednesday.
“He plays well in NY, his only slam final was here, he beat Novak here”.
“I played extremely well”. Murray also thought playing indoors helped Nishikori fare better in his return games.
Dan Evans bowed out in five thrilling sets to Stan Wawrinka in the third round, after spurning a match point against the world number three, while Konta was beaten on Sunday by surprise package Anastasija Sevastova in the fourth round.
“I played very well with very few unforced errors and made it very tough for Grigor”.
But, unlike the Serbia clash, Andy Murray would not have to contend with a change of surface and, injury permitting, seems nearly certain to play. He beat Novak here (in 2014).

I can’t see Murray winning in three unless he has a really good day and he looks short at [1.17] which is the shortest he’s been against Dimitrov since their first clash in 2011 in Bangkok. Should del Potro make the semi-finals he would be the lowest-ranked man to do so at a Grand Slam since 237th-ranked Vladimir Voltchkov at Wimbledon in 2000. But I’d imagine that soon, as I’m getting older, they’re getting stronger, that will start to happen unfortunately. He’s obviously playing pretty well this summer, he played some good stuff at the Olympics, won the bronze there. But in general he was content to work his opponent from side to side with a lot of looping top-spin, sensing that Dimitrov was off colour and would deliver an error sooner or later.
