Rookie Wentz leads Eagles past Browns

Well, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

So, hold off on the notion that the Eagles (1-0) gave up on contending in a weak NFC East by trading Bradford and committed to rebuilding by starting Wentz. Cleveland did not record a first down and accumulated just 13 yards of total offense in the first quarter.

The first half of the game started about as badly as we could have ever imagined. After the game RG-III told reporters he suffered a left shoulder sprain. “He stood in there and made plays and you have to be impressed with the way he played, especially for a rookie in his first game”.

Griffin will undergo more tests Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

Griffin started the drive with an 11-yard completion to Pryor, and two plays later, he found Johnson for a 16-yard gain to Philadelphia’s 48-yard line. Griffin took a hard hit to the chest in the fourth quarter and doubled over in pain.

This was a game where both teams had new head coaches and new quarterbacks, and it looked it.

Perriman only made one catch but it was a beauty, an acrobatic leaping grab over a defender for 35 yards. “We’ve got to put this behind us and get ready for Chicago”. “That’s the thing I was trying to get across to the fans, to the media: This is who he is”. The Eagles also dominated the time of possession in the game, almost doubling up the Browns 39 minutes and 20 seconds, to just 20 minutes and 40 seconds.

And insert your Cleveland Browns/FCS joke now, but Wentz looked pretty good in his debut.

One play after converting a fourth-and-4 from the Browns 40, Wentz tossed a flawless 35-yard TD pass down the right side to Nelson Agholor for a 22-10 lead in the third quarter.

“The owner”™s reference was to Browns defensive end Carl Nassib, the Malvern Prep and Penn State product who had commented about the speed of Wentz”™s delivery during the week leading up to the opener. Griffin said he would be fine for Week 2.

Coaches and teammates have raved about Carson Wentz despite barely seeing him play in games.

“I’ll tell you what he was flawless, One drop pass it was ideal, it was much better than what I was hoping for, BAM”, Dale Rust says, moments after the play. They look around the National Football League at key matchups, and report on the Eagles’ players, coaches and front office. The football would roll out of the back of the end zone for a safety. The quarter ended with the Browns trailing 22-10.

“(Wentz) was telling me, ‘If they go man and you’re inside, I’m throwing the ball to you.

“Just have to monitor it and see how it goes”, Griffin said. Pryor went stride for stride with Eagles defensive back Nolan Carroll down the left sideline and used his 6-foot-5 frame to swim around the defensive back and haul in the pass as he fell to the ground. It was the most passing yards by an Eagles rookie quarterback in almost 60 years.

Ryan Mathews rushed for a 1-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to seal the result. The Eagles lead increased to double digits.

“It was an all right day”, he said after the Birds’ impressive victory. I can’t say nothing bad. “I like to listen to worship music before the game to kind of calm my nerves”. It would have been nice to finish that drive with a touchdown. “It was totally my responsibility”, Jackson said. The line must do a better job at protecting the quarterback for this team to succeed.

“We had opportunities to win, and we were on the wrong side of the momentum”, Griffin said. For someone who relied so much on his ability to get out of the pocket and throw, or simply move quicker than the defense chasing him, there will always be the doubt, and for good reason, that he can become an effective pocket passer, or something of the sort.
