A spokesman for Denver Health Medical Center told NBC News that it was treating five patients, two of them in critical condition.

At least 10 people are being treated for their injuries at nearby hospitals, authorities said.

Police said the bus circled the airport and struck a concrete pillar. The driver, whose name and age have not been released, died at the scene.

“Really, our focus needs to be making sure our students and staff are cared for”, he said.

The crash of the Adams 12 Five Star Schools district bus took place at 4:08 p.m., airport spokesman Heath Montgomery said. Airport spokeswoman Stacey Stegman told the Denver Post that the bus carried 28 students and four adults.

The driver circled back to the airport and crashed into the pillar after she picked up members of the Legacy High School football team, police said.

“(The driver) ran off the right side of the roadway”, Denver Police Sgt. Mike Farr said. “They really don’t know why”.

The bus was travelling to the airport to pick up Legacy High School’s football team, who had played a match in California.

According to DIA, the crash happened on the fourth level on the east terminal.

By late Sunday, three adult staff members remained in the hospital, and numerous 15 students who were injured had been released to their parents, school district officials said.

The bus was from Legacy High School in Broomfield, Colo., KUSA-TV reported.

“It would be curious that she comes back up around”, said Farr.
