At least 25 people have been killed and 70 injured, many critically, in a huge fire triggered by a boiler explosion at a Bangladeshi packaging factory, officials said on Saturday as fire fighters struggled to contain the blaze.

At least six of the 14 people being treated for burns at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital were in critical condition, said Mohammed Bacchu Mia, a police official at the hospital.
Citing hospital officials, the paper said the bodies of 19 people were recovered from the building while five others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
Dhaka: The death toll in the fire tragedy at a Bangladeshi factory on Monday climbed to 32 after more bodies were retrieved from under the debris and authorities called in a team of army to join the rescue operation.
A fire at a plastics factory a year ago killed 13 persons, and in 2013 more than 1,100 people died in the Rana Plaza factory collapse, the worst industrial accident in the country.

“I have already been asked to formulate a project to inspect all the factories in all four industrial zones in the country”, he said.
Police feare there may still be some workers trapped inside the four-storey building in the Tongi industrial area outside Dhaka.
The location of the boiler in the building is also being scrutinised, he said.
Western brands subsequently upgraded safety standards and inspections for suppliers, dramatically reducing incidents of fire and other accidents at export-orientated factories.
It’s the latest in a series of factory disasters in Bangladesh, one of the world’s top garment exporters.
