EAGLES: Wentz named starting QB
By trading so much capital for the second pick in the Draft, Philadelphia entrusted its future in the hands of Wentz – even if most anticipated that he wouldn’t see the field in 2016.

Wentz suffered a hairline fracture to his ribs to open the preseason and didn’t play again. These days you are what your record is and you are what people think you are when they do power rankings.
After sending Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings, the Philadelphia Eagles named Carson Wentz as the starting quarterback for Week 1. We have to do our jobs and keep him clean. It’s something now that we’re prepared to do.
“He’s such a special guy”. The stage is not that big.
He may be green and look good in midnight green, but the skills that led the Eagles to trade up twice to the second overall pick are undeniable. Twenty-two of the 23 came against other Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams. It’s something that we believe in.
Obviously Carson Wentz is believed to be the quarterback for the future in Philadelphia. Would an ideal situation be later than sooner? “So it’s nothing that we’ve really spent a lot of time addressing with him more than just working on his feet and his mechanics from his lower body”. We can’t go out there and tell Carson to win this game. Even though Wentz’s numbers aren’t exciting, the team looked the best with him under center as opposed to former quarterback Sam Bradford and current backup Chase Daniel.
“I remember when I was young, it seemed like things were flying all over the place”, veteran tight end Brent Celek said of Wentz. “Having that support and this team behind me elevates my confidence and helps me play on Sunday”.
“When you meet with (coaches) and you hear their thoughts on Carson and his readiness, mentally and physically, it makes you feel very confident in being able to do such an aggressive move a week before the season starts”, Roseman said.
We don’t yet know what makes Wentz tick psychologically, but we have to imagine a player calling your arm speed slow and an executive saying you won’t amount to much has to get the fire burning a little bit. “But believe me, it’s not going to get in the way of my preparation”. Both units figure to finish somewhere just above league average this season, so, at least for one half of the game, we’ll get some good football.
But instead of waiting, Wentz will start right away. However, he wore one, too, in that Tampa Bay game. This is why we drafted him. I was developing at a fast pace and now it’s here. At Vanderbilt I played with six different and I think this will be my fourth different in three years in the NFL.
Wentz will have a decent game against the Browns but won’t out play Robert Griffin III. Joe Flacco (2008 Ravens) and Matt Ryan (2008 Falcons) each won 11 games and went to the playoffs.
“I don’t need that extra yard”, Pederson said. Roseman said the offer was just too good to say no to, even if it nearly certainly weakens his team in the short term.
