US marks 15th anniversary of 9/11 attacks
Americans commemorated the 15th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on Sunday with the recital of the names of the dead, tolling church bells and a tribute in lights at the site where New York City’s massive twin towers collapsed. A service also was held at the Flight 93 National Memorial. The 9/11 attacks mark the deadliest assault on the United States in its history.

“There is no New Yorker who somehow evaded the pain of that day”.
In all, nearly 3,000 people died in the combined terror attacks.
The National September 11 Memorial is a tribute to the almost 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center site, near Shanksville, Pa., and at the Pentagon, as well as the six people killed in the World Trade Center bombing in February 1993.
The reading of the names will be interrupted by several periods of silence to mark pivotal moments of the 2001 attacks: 9:03 a.m., when the second plane struck the south tower; 9:37 a.m., when Flight 77 struck the Pentagon; 9:59 a.m., when the south tower fell; 10:03 a.m., when Flight 95 crashed near Shanksville, Pa.; 10:28 a.m., when the north tower fell. “And everyone tell someone you love them today”.
If you live anywhere in the five boroughs you’ve probably been able to see these twin beams of light shooting into the sky from Lower Manhattan.
She said many today don’t understand the pure panic and terror at how much was unknown during and after the attacks.
He added that he thinks of his son daily but there was something about the anniversary of the attacks. “My wife and I lost everything”, Acquaviva said. “You carry on, but you don’t move on”, he said.
The second tower of the World Trade Center bursts into flames after being hit by a hijacked airplane in NY on September 11, 2001.
The 9/11 attack was the largest attack the USA has ever experienced.
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican rival Donald Trump are attending the anniversary ceremony at the World Trade Center.
After Sept. 11, that feeling of invulnerability was gone for good. The nation remained on its heels for weeks and even months after the attacks as we heard one heartbreaking story after another about the victims: 2,753 in NY, 184 in Washington and 40 in western Pennsylvania.
President Obama is scheduled to mark the day with a moment of silence at the White House at 8:46 a.m.
Some of the most powerful content is audio and video recordings made by survivors, rescue workers and family members of victims.
“In the face of terrorism, how we respond matters”, Obama said in his weekly address.
It’s particularly important that we educate younger generations who either weren’t born or were too young to understand the events of the day when 9/11 took place. “We can not react in ways that erode the fabric of our society”.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign says the Democratic presidential nominee left the 9/11 anniversary ceremony in NY early after feeling “overheated”.
The president also reiterated the country’s commitment in fighting against terrorist outfits like the al-Qaida and the Islamic State group. “And we’ll keep doing everything in our power to protect our homeland”, he added.

Clutching cell phones, cameras and selfie sticks, visitors generally take their time around the National September 11 Memorial Museum. Only a 21-mile section of the cycle trail has been opened so far. George W Bush, who was president at the time of the attacks, spent the morning at church in Dallas, Texas, his home state. Because we knew so many didn’t have a chance to do that.
