Bills’ Sammy Watkins (foot) could miss extended time

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins was able to play in Week 1 after undergoing foot surgery during the offseason, but it does not sound like he emerged without setbacks. According to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News, Watkins is playing through “severe discomfort” in the same foot that required off-season surgery. Apparently Watkins, who underwent surgery to fix his foot this offseason, is playing with severe discomfort in the foot that could cause him to miss some significant time.

X-rays taken after the Bills’ season-opening loss to the Ravens on Sunday did not reveal another break, according to a person familiar with the situation, but Watkins is far from out of the woods. He underwent surgery to fix the bone, but he tweeted to his fans that he would be able to return in time for the season. Watkins had four catches for for a team-high 43 yards on Sunday against the Ravens. First came the news of his quiet offseason surgery to fix a broken foot. There was a fear on Sunday night that the wideout could miss the rest of the season.

Watkins has quickly developed into a special talent for the Bills since he was drafted fourth overall in 2014.

The injury becomes a pain management issue for Watkins.
