The Cowboys are still trying to figure out how to designate quarterback Tony Romo’s roster status to start the season.

“Knowledge-wise, I think I’m the smartest quarterback that came in the class”, Prescott told USA Today. “I’m not shocked that he’s played this well”.
The Cowboys are in desperate need of experienced NFL quarterbacks on the depth chart after Tony Romo sustained a back injury that will keep him out for six to 10 weeks, per Pro Football Talk.
However, there appears to be a difference of opinion between the Cowboys’ front office and coaching staff on when Romo can come back this season. So maybe those comparisons to McNabb are a bit premature.
And to be compared to the greatest quarterback in Eagles’ history comes with quite the lofty expectations, puking in the huddle included.
“We’re certainly getting our hands around it”, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday after the team’s annual Kickoff Luncheon benefitting Happy Hill Farm.
“I’m sure it’s not how he wants to become the opening-day starter, but knowing a guy like Dak, he’s going to be 100 percent prepared for that moment”, Mullen said.

It also means that with the heavy running game expected this season, you can add in some read option plays which will open things up for the running backs while keeping defenses on their heels. Romo is projected to be out for the next 6-10 weeks and Cowboys fans were not happy, so they let Cliff know about it on social media & he doesn’t approve of it.
Prescott was impressive enough in the first two preseason games to make owner and general manager Jerry Jones comfortable with him as Romo’s backup, rather than bringing in a veteran. I think the players see that, and he’s done a good job throughout training camp, learning the offense and executing plays and done a good job in the preseason. First-year player Showers was the only other quarterback on the current roster prior to Thursday’s signing of Johnson, although Dallas is expected to add an experienced veteran before the September 11 season opener at home against the New York Giants. If you are going to let him play, let him play the whole year and don’t give him an inclination that he could be demoted once Romo is well again.
Even though the Chiefs are telling teams Murray can be had via trade, it’s also completely plausible for Dallas to pick him up for free on the waiver wire.
“I like how poised he is”, Elliott said, via the Dallas Morning News. Dak has looked good this preseason, but don’t be fooled into thinking the regular season will be as easy for him.
