Donald Trump attends funeral of conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly
Trump praised Schlafly for being an early and ardent supporter of his presidential candidacy during brief remarks to 2,000 mourners at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. “Her whole life’s been dedicated to what she believes and I think that’s a real tribute to anyone”, Morgan said.

“Phyllis Schlafly is a conservative icon who led millions to action, reshaped the conservative movement, and fearlessly battled globalism and the “kingmakers” on behalf of America’s workers and families”.
The crowd cheered and applauded as Trump said of Schlafly that “we will never, ever let you down”.
Schlafly, who became a “founding mother” of the modern US conservative movement by battling feminists in the 1970s and working tirelessly to defeat the Equal Rights Amendment, died on Monday at the age of 92.
“Here was a nationalist, a trade protectionist, immigrant restrictionist and a neo-isolationist”, Critchlow wrote in The Washington Post.
And Trump was most certainly right about Phyllis Schlafly’s influence on his movement, powered as it is by those who take their policy choices from the politics of Ronald Reagan, but the spirit of their movement from Phyllis Schlafly’s 1964 classic book “A Choice Not An Echo”.
“In March when Phyllis and Mr. Trump met before she endorsed him, Phyllis handed him her copy of the 2012 Republican platform and asked him to help her keep it strong”.
Trump, who is handily winning with evangelical voters according to the most recent Pew poll, will protect the Christian faith from Muslims overseas and the political left in the US, Schlafly and her co-authors wrote. America has always been about the underdog and always about defying the odds. Schlafly died on the eve of the book’s release.
Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump called the late Phyllis Schlafly “a great lady”, as he spoke at Schlafly’s funeral in St Louis. Both the Clinton and Trump campaigns have said they will not conduct campaign events on Sunday morning.
“We didn’t go to the small actual service; we came to the big one where they invited Donald Trump”, he said.
Ironically, Schlafly’s support of Trump over Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in the Republican primaries divided Eagle Forum, even her own children, with some supporting Trump and some supporting Cruz.
Trump tweets that he’ll be in Missouri with his wife, Melania, for the funeral of “a wonderful and truly respected woman”.
Trump and his supporters quickly pounced on the remark, arguing that it revealed Clinton as disconnected from struggling Americans. For me, her final lesson is that we all have our contradictions, whether we recognize them or not.
