RIP, Lumia: Microsoft said to be phasing out the Lumia line
Microsoft will stop manufacturing new Lumia 550, 650, 950 and 950 XL phones in December and after that, the phones will gradually disappear from stores. But that may also mean that the Lumia brand may be set to be retired in the process.

As Techradar points out, Microsofr’sDirector of Engineering recently tweeted out that a “Surface Phone is not NOT confirmed”, the double negative there was intentional, teasing that the possibility is still out there.
Whether this is the end of the Lumia line or the end of Microsoft’s effort in the smartphone business, remains to be seen as the Redmond based company refused to comment on the matter. A better option would be to give the owner a brand new Lumia 950, and some cash back in order to compensate for no Lumia 950 XL replacements being available, but Microsoft has not provided any announcement regarding this either. However there is no proof about the upcoming smartphone. Tech Times says that while fans are highly anticipating the release of this new phone, they may have to wait until next year due to components issues. However, Microsoft will continue to sell Lumia phones till the existing stock lasts. But it makes sense for Microsoft to change tack and try and start over with the Surface phone.
Winbeta also claims that the much-rumoured Surface Phone will be announced at an event in October.
Previous rumors have suggested that Microsoft may kill its Lumia lineup in a bid to launch high-end Surface Phone smartphones.
But as far as Lumia’s demise is concerned, this doesn’t come as a big surprise. The company has been working on the Surface Phone, which is slated for launch in 2017 and is speculated to feature an Intel Atom X3 processor packed into an aluminium and magnesium body.
