Japan airline announces 2 new Star Wars droid planes
But besides appearing in a couple of teaser trailers and at a handful of public events, has the rolling BB-8 droid earned the same honour?

As fans gear up for the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, the movie and its characters are popping up everywhere you turn.
“We’re confident that Star Wars fans around the world will absolutely love this design”. This weekend brought a slew of news related to the franchise, from “Rogue One” cast and crew announcements to a takeover of Disney parks and resorts.
The second plane, a Boeing 767-300, will be a combination of BB-8 and R2-D2. The airline is looking to the Peregrine Falcon, the spaceship from the Star Wars films, for inspiration in October and transforming two of its planes by giving them Star Wars-themed liveries. Across the entire ANA worldwide fleet, the first six films in the series will be available for viewing on the in-flight entertainment system.
“We’re proud of the innovative R2-D2 design, and we look forward to witnessing the first-ever flight of a passenger aircraft featuring a Star Wars character”.
The painted planes are part of a five-year promotional deal between ANA and Disney and will fly domestic as well as worldwide routes. The aircraft is also expected to operate to Sydney when ANA resumes service to Australia in December, as well as US cities such as Seattle and San Jose and Europe ports Munich, Paris and Brussels.
In March 2016, the BB-8 ANA Jet is scheduled to start serving worldwide routes principally between Japan and North America (the exact routes have yet to be announced).

Then, in November, the Star Wars-themed Boeing 767 will debut on intra-Japan routes.
