The docuseries – which debuted December 18, 2015, and quickly became a hit – was nominated for six Emmys, and ended up sweeping the top three nonfiction categories Sunday night, Deadline explains. It swept the top 3 nonfiction categories, best documentary or nonfiction series, best writing and best directing for nonfiction program and also won best picture editing for nonfiction program. Per Deadline.com, the highly popular show won four of six Emmy awards in several best documentary or nonfiction series categories. The judge said Dassey’s statements were coerced, and he was wrongly imprisoned. While the documentary series was well made, the buzz generated by this story took on a life of its own and lasted for well over two months on social media. “We had so many questions going in”. Avery’s subsequent lawsuit was ostensibly on the brink of exposing corruption in local law enforcement when he found himself the primary suspect in a new case: The murder of a young photographer named Teresa Halbach.

Four wins for Netflix’s “Making a Murderer” will send network execs in search of even more unknown true crime stories to tell. “This is justice at work, and we will continue to document that”.

Despite the fact Making a Murderer’s Brendan Dassey has had his conviction overturned, the state of Wisconsin is now fighting a court order to release him from jail. “It is a very trying time for all of the families involved”. George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s company, Smokehouse and Sonar Entertianment, is producing the project. “I think one of the main things we would like is for this to encourage other emerging artists that they should believe in themselves and never count themselves out”, Demos said.
