Clinton, Trump Clash Over National Security Issues in Debate Preview
The Democrat was repeatedly challenged on her controversial email use at the State Department and her vote as a senator for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Trump also said he would be asking Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and other countries “to pay more for the tremendous security we provide them”.
PROPOSAL: Immediately after taking office, Mr. Trump will ask the generals to present a plan within 30 days to defeat and destroy ISIS.
Asked to square his request for military options with his harsh criticism of the current crop of generals, Trump said simply: “They’ll probably be different generals”.
“Now, you combine a free pass for Putin on aggressive behaviour and a welcome by ISIS that his language plays right into their hands and will give them more credibility in saying that this is some kind of civilisational war, we’re going to have to undo the damage that he’s already done in the campaign after this election and make it very clear, the USA stands by our word, we stand by our friends and allies”, she said.
She said that Mr. Trump’s remark at the forum that Russian President Vladimir Putin was a better leader than Mr. Obama showed that this “is not a serious presidential campaign”.
Asked on Thursday if he agrees with Trump, Pence told CNN, “I think it’s inarguable that Vladimir Putin has been a stronger leader in his country than Barack Obama has been in this country”. That’s close to the 2.3 million donors who Clinton’s campaign says have supported her since she began raising money past year.
She added: “So can I say I was surprised?” “I find it frustrating, but it’s part of the landscape we live in”.
During the forum Wednesday, the Republican presidential nominee predicted that, as president, he would have a “very, very good relationship with Putin”, whom he described as a “leader”.
Clinton and Trump will hold their first face-to-face debate September 26.
By virtue of a coin flip, Mrs Clinton took the stage first and quickly found herself responding at length to questions about her years in government.
“What we learned from Hillary Clinton’s press conference today is that she once again fails to take responsibility for the results of her failed tenure as Secretary of State”. But she defended her support for USA military intervention to help oust a dictator in Libya, despite the chaotic aftermath.
Clinton, also asked about the issue, pointed to her recently rolled out mental health policy agenda.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager says Donald Trump didn’t come prepared to answer questions about his foreign policy plans. And for the first time, he opened the door to granting legal status to people living in the USA illegally who join the military.
“I do believe that Donald Trump is growing in his understanding of these issues and I think that he’s beginning to get more and more people around him that have a depth of understanding as to the complexities and I’m watching this evolve”, he said. “I could see myself working that”.
“If he says great things about me, I’m going to say great things about him”, Mr Trump continued.
Replied questioner Mike Barnicle, “You’re kidding me”.
The appearances mark an intense, two-day focus on national security by Trump, who has offered tough rhetoric – but few details – on America’s challenges overseas. Both candidates believe they have the upper hand, with Mrs Clinton contrasting her experience with Mr Trump’s unpredictability and the Republican arguing that Americans anxious about their safety will be left with more of the same if they elect Mr Obama’s former secretary of state.
Mr Trump shared his thoughts at the time, arguing that having women in the military increased the likelihood of sexual assault.
While Trump has often complained that USA forces are not large enough or well-equipped, he’s also said that he’d save money by cutting waste and ensuring that contractors aren’t getting sweetheart deals due to their connections or lobbying efforts.

Emerging from a meeting in NY with bipartisan group of national security experts, Mrs. Clinton promised to redouble the type of strategy used by President Obama, with an emphasis on US air strikes and USA support for Arab and Kurdish fighters on the ground in Iraq and Syria.
