The post Paralympics: Lucy breaks record, wins gold for Nigeria appeared first on Punch Newspapers. As well as boasting undeniable talent in a wide range of sports, each and every athlete has their own inspiring tale of how they’ve defied the odds to make it to The Games.
Vanessa Low, the 26-year-old athlete from the northern town of Ratzeburg, not only secured gold in the long jump but smashed a world record in the process. She is among the favourites for the C4/C5 500m time trial, which also features 12-time gold medallist Dame Sarah Storey. “In the race itself, you don’t take anything in, you do your job and I did my job properly, I feel”.
According to Xinhua, Pan registered a time of 27.35 seconds to surpass the previous world record of 27.67 set by the eleven-time Paralympic gold medalist David Roberts of the Great Britain at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Pascoe made her intentions clear on Sunday, posting the fastest time in the heats before proceeding to blitz the field in the final. She started in lane four, just in front of Vervoort in lane three in the staggered start for the one-lap race.
Nigeria’s Ndidi Nwosu has won the country’s 5th gold in the women’s -73kg in the powerlifting event at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympics.
