According to the Associated Press, the bus involved is with Adams 12 Five Star Schools.
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they immediately transported the surviving victims to area hospitals.
Police say the driver of a school bus that crashed at Denver International Airport circled back to the airport and crashed into a concrete pillar after she picked up members of a high school football team.
“In the dirt, the tire tracks did not show any right or left turns”, said Denver Police Department Traffic Investigator Sgt. Mike Farr. “Why? I don’t know that answer yet, but medical conditions could be one of those answers”.
Josh Chopper, Kari Chopper’s husband, said the accident has taken a heavy toll, confirming that his wife perished in the crash.
Students at a suburban Denver high school where a school bus driver was killed and high school football players and staffers injured Sunday resumed classes Monday.
Farr said her bus was the first to leave the airport, with two other buses also carrying football players, coaches and adult chaperones following. Police interviewed the football players about the crash. “They don’t really know why”.
Mercurio said after the impact, her son looked up to the bus’ mangled front and his injured coaches inside.
The Legacy High School football team won’t practice on Monday, although all 15 students taken to local hospitals have been released. One was apparently unconscious on a seat with a gash on his head and the other lying on the floor.
The station reported that six patients in fair condition were taken to Children’s Hospital Colorado, while officials with University Hospital said they had five patients, but it’s unclear what their conditions are.
The bus was travelling towards the arrvials section of the airport – when it suddenly crashed into a support bridge.
DIA reported the crash at around 3:18 p.m.
The crash stunned students at the school in Broomfield, north of Denver.
