Sony Unveils Upgraded PlayStation 4 Pro, Includes 4K & HDR Capabilities
Following Sony’s announcement yesterday of the PlayStation 4 Pro, which will seemingly compete with Microsoft’s Project Scorpio, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has issued a response.

It’s an interesting game unfolding behind the scenes, one we look forward to seeing play out. This makes the PlayStation 4 Pro ideal for gamers, less so for those who also want the highest-quality home theater experience possible. That said, he still thinks there are strong benefits to releasing the PS4 Pro now with HDR support, one of which being greater support for PSVR and its games. The latest move is meant to go after an even wider audience at opposite ends of the gaming world.
The PlayStation 4 Pro, which is targeted at more serious gamers and features a 1TB hard drive, will be available starting November 10 with a retail price of $399. Even running at its regular old resolution of 1080p, “Uncharted 4” is one of the most attractive games ever made, so the promise of seeing it in 4K is pretty exciting. Although it will be available starting from September, you may now want to wait and hold back to enjoy it in glorious 4K.
The most notable change under the hood of the Pro is the ability for 4K playback, and its Netflix and YouTube apps will support 4K and HDR streaming from those services.
In an unexpected bit of good news, Sony announced that all PS4 consoles will be getting a firmware update to allow them to support HDR. The PlayStation 4 released almost three years ago in November 2013.

In raw numbers, the PS4 Pro is capable of 4.2 trillion calculations per second, which is more than double that of the previous model.
