Get Ready For A Remake Of THE TOXIC AVENGER

If not, Troma is known for its low-budget, B-movies, of which Toxic Avenger is perhaps its greatest hit.

Loosely based on Lloyd Kaufman’s classic Troma franchise, The Toxic Avenger is the tale of a high school kid who gets dunked in a Value-Added Tax of toxic waste by a corrupt chemical company.

Toxic Avenger is a re-imagining of Troma’s cult classic, which tells the story of a New Jersey teenager whose accidental tumble into a Value-Added Tax of toxic waste turns him into a mutant superhero. – At least as “grounded and mainstream” as a film about a nerdy New Jersey janitor transformed into a horrifically deformed, super-powered, mop-wielding hero could possibly become, anyway. According to Variety, Archer’s Mike Arnold and The Grackle’s Chris Poole will handle writing duties on the movie.

As with the 2013 iteration, the film will be produced by Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein and Charlie Corwin.

This will mark Vernon’s first live-action film, as he has previously only worked in animation on films like SHREK 2, MADAGASCAR 3, and MONSTERS VS. ALIENS. The Wrap goes out of its way to specify that this will be a live-action remake, just in case you were anxious Vernon might be making a feature film version of the inexplicable Toxic Avenger cartoon series. Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will executive produce. Interestingly, just one month after its release, Sausage Party, Vernon’s recent R-rated co-directorial effort with Greg Tiernan, has already yielded a $113.5 million global gross on the back of a $19 million budget investment.

It will certainly be interesting to see how The Toxic Avenger remake mutates the classic, proudly-lewd, extremely-un-PC film franchise.
