Ms Vetrano’s body was found at 10.30pm by her father, Philip a retired NY firefighter, who said he normally went for jogs with his daughter but didn’t that night due to an injury.
He explained weeds were found in her hands. A DNA profile of the murderer has been built, but it does not match anyone in local and national DNA databases.
Detectives think the man, who is believed to be between 35 and 40, might be able to provide information about Vetrano’s sexual assault and murder.
The family says they have hired a private investigator to expand the search.
Police did not identify him as a suspect or person of interest, but sought the individual because a utility worker saw him near the pathway to the Belt Parkway on the north end of Spring Creek Park the afternoon Vetrano was killed.
A reward of almost $300,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Karina Vetrano, 30, was murdered while running through Spring Creek Park in Howard Beach on August 2. “I am asking all of you to share with all you know”. Her family and police hope the video will lead to a break in the case. Police Commissioner Bratton says he’s hoping the release of the video will shed new light. Investigators also reportedly uncovered DNA they believe is the killer’s on the woman’s neck, her cellphone, and from underneath her fingernails, the station reports, but so far, they haven’t matched it.
