The online Hollywood trade says character details are sketchy but cites a “rumor making the rounds” that Barnes is playing a “corrupt crime prodigy” named Bobby Saint.

It’s unclear when The Punisher spin-off series would begin production or premiere, though it’s likely that it will arrive after The Defenders mini-series.

Netflix’s Punisher series has officially made headway, with its first casting aside from Jon Bernthal as The Punisher himself. If you know anything about the Punisher, then you know that his enemies don’t tend to survive.

Along with playing the title role in Prince Caspian and reprising the role for that film’s sequel, 2010’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Barnes will also appear in the upcoming HBO series Westworld. Some of his previous roles include Seventh Son (pictured above), Sons of Liberty, and Killing Bono.

There’s now no release date for The Punisher, but a 2017 debut seems likely if casting has already begun.

For a while, Netflix refused to confirm rumblings of a possible Frank Castle-centric series in development, but the streaming service eventually gave a formal announcement earlier this year following the success of the character’s debut in Daredevil season 2.
